Typical scenario

A portrait report overlooks lens distortion

If a portrait report uses a wide-angle frame with visibly curved doorway lines, its geometry needs review. Here the face occupies a different image region from the comparison photograph. Assess whether optical distortion affected features treated as stable differences.

What needs to be clarified

Review distortion handling, the justification for geometric comparison and arguments needing reassessment against the optical system's characteristics.

Materials to prepare

  • The complete report with marked geometric features and illustrations
  • The full original frame, comparison image and camera parameters
  • Grid control images from the same camera with documented settings

What to compare

Check image-region positions, curved straight references and built-in correction. Separate optical distortion from perspective, head rotation and later file stretching. Apply corrections only to working copies with recorded parameters; test the model against control images rather than selecting it to make faces match.

Possible outcome of the analysis

A methodological review may map distorted zones and permissible comparisons; some conclusions may need source re-examination or remain unverifiable with unknown optics.

Limits of the conclusions

Automatic correction does not guarantee true facial proportions. Reviewing the method cannot establish identity; similarity after an arbitrary transformation is not independent evidence of identity.
